Mistraki

Where time stops!

Mistraki traditional settlement with stone houses Mystraki Messinia Greece

Rural Hideaway

Away from mass tourism

Mistraki is conveniently situated between seaside villages Koroni, Finikounda and Vounaria. Short drive to beaches, water sports, historical attractions, activities and Pylos golf courses.

A rustic oasis with cobble stone paths, traditional village square, spring water well, citrus trees and a small church. Technological developments have made little impact to this quiet hamlet. Agriculture is of prime importance, especially the cultivation of olives for producing olive oil. There are no shops or bars in Mystraki, just soothing chatter of cicadas and occasional bleating from the local goats.

The perfect location to enjoy your privacy without being completely isolated.

In the Vicinity

Out and about

Neighbouring villages Homatero and Falanthi are a pleasant walk (4km) or bicycle ride alongside olive and orange trees. Homatero has a small café where locals pass their time playing backgammon or discussing their crops, religion and politics. At Falanthi, taverna Agia Plagia serves traditional Greek cuisine at reasonable prices.

Larger villages, Nea Koroni and Harakopio are 7km from the villa and have taverna, café, bakery, supermarket, pharmacy and buses to Kalamata and the coast. At seaside areas, Finikounda and Koroni (10km) you will find a doctor, dentist, banks, shops, fresh fish tavernas, restaurants, bars, sandy beaches, water sports and and entertainment.

Mystraki History

Folklore and myth

Mistraki is classified as a traditional settlement of historic interest. The preserved stone houses, built by Arcadian immigrants after the Greek Revolution are over a hundred years old.

The name Mystraki is possibly of Byzantine origin because it sounds similar to the larger area of Mystras in Sparti. A monastery and Byzantine church Saint Theodore were built in the 13th century on a nearby site of an ancient Greek temple. The church is covered with holy icons and Byzantine frescoes identical to those in churches at Mistras depicting Christ, Virgin Mary and the Saints. Tombs dating back to the Mycenaean period have been discovered in this area but access to them is currently prohibited.
